Water Wise Landscaping

Water conservation is encouraged by utilizing grasses that require significantly less water or by considering a xeriscape design. Xeriscape means installing a smaller turf area, utilizing low-water plants, using soil amendments and mulches, and irrigating efficiently.

The District defines Xeriscaping as a landscaping method developed especially for arid and drought-prone regions that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water from irrigation.

Key Features of Xeriscaping:

  • Use of drought-tolerant native plants
  • Efficient irrigation systems
  • Mulching to reduce evaporation
  • Soil improvement for better water retention
  • Low maintenance and water-efficient design

The District does not allow Xeroscaping, which is defined by "zero" plants, grass, or maintenance.
