Trailside Metropolitan District Nos. 1-6

The native areas throughout Trailside Metro District are designed to establish with limited irrigation and are not regularly irrigated by the District. These areas are intended to transition to naturally sustained native and drought-tolerant grasses over time.

Residents may notice that some native areas, particularly those with non-native pasture grass species such as crested wheatgrass, appear very dry during periods of heat and limited moisture. This is expected and does not necessarily indicate an irrigation issue.

The District's approach to native areas is focused on allowing the grasses to develop deeper root systems and become more resilient to Colorado's natural conditions. As these areas mature, they are expected to require little to no supplemental irrigation.

Native Area Mowing

Based on review from the Board of Directors and the District's native area expert, the native areas will not be mowed this year. Allowing the grasses to remain unmowed will support continued establishment and root development and help the native areas develop naturally.

The District will continue to monitor the native areas and address weed growth and other maintenance needs as appropriate. Native areas are not maintained in the same manner as irrigated turf and are expected to have a more natural, seasonal appearance.
